About this project

Independent civic data project

Official-data election results, not an official results portal.

It separates ECI result rows, declared results, and final certification so readers can see what changed, where it came from, and whether Form 20 has arrived.

What this is

Tamil Nadu 2026 / Result Desk is an independent civic data project for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election count, from postal ballots through Form 20 certification.

It is not a news outlet. It is not affiliated with any political party, alliance, campaign, government office, or election authority. It does not accept advertising, sponsorship, or political funding. Its only editorial position is simple: election numbers should show where they came from.

Data sources

Every number on the page is traceable to one of three source groups:

  • Tamil Nadu Election Department Form 20. The final certified record. It stays visible even when it has not yet been published.
  • Election Commission of India result pages. Party-wise and constituency-wise rows during and after counting. ECI states that these entries are filled by Returning Officers at counting centres, and that Form 20 is the final record.
  • Independent cross-checks. Civic dashboards may be used to catch gaps, but never override ECI or Form 20.

What this is not

  • Not a predictor. It reports what official sources report at the time they report it.
  • Not a partisan product. Parties are represented by data, not by preference.
  • Not a substitute for the Election Commission or the Tamil Nadu Election Department.
  • Not monetized. No ads, subscription, sponsorship, or affiliate links.

Methodology notes

There is no private election API behind this project. The desk reads public election result pages, normalizes the rows, and keeps the source status visible beside the result.

  • Status labels. Provisional means the declared ECI result is visible, but Form 20 certification has not replaced it yet. Snapshot means the statewide seat picture is pinned from public result pages.
  • Close contests. Margins under 1,000 votes are flagged because the certified margin matters most in these seats.
  • Regional lenses. Chennai Metro, North, West / Kongu, Delta, and South follow common Tamil Nadu political reading patterns.
  • Form 20 upgrade. Certified data replaces ECI result rows and receives the gold certification treatment.

Updates

  1. Light mode made the default public view. Dark mode remains available from the toggle.
  2. Added Form 22 Certificate of Election explainer to show what the Returning Officer gives the elected candidate after declaration.
  3. Froze the site as Tamil Nadu 2026 Result Desk. Government-formation tracking is retired; Reports now carries the durable analysis.
  4. Launched the Result Desk with party tally, assembly arc, regional split, map, close contests, data sources, and constituency detail.

Why I built this

I grew up in Tamil Nadu and now live and work in San Francisco, building software products. Election results are one of the most important datasets a democracy produces, but the public experience is often a noisy TV ticker, a cluttered news page, or a slow official site. The certified record, Form 20, is usually even harder for ordinary readers to see.

I wanted to see what a Tamil Nadu election would look like if it were presented with the discipline of a newsroom graphics desk, clear data sources, and the cultural fingerprint of the state itself. This is a small contribution from where I sit: not a campaign, not a column, a page that treats Tamil Nadu's civic data with the seriousness it deserves.

Symbol policy

Party colors are used for data continuity. Symbol glyphs are shown only where the mark can be represented conservatively; otherwise the interface falls back to party code text rather than guessed artwork. Candidate photos are intentionally kept out of dense views.

Disclaimer

This is an independent civic data project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Election Commission of India, the Tamil Nadu Election Department, any political party, alliance, campaign, or candidate. Official records published by election authorities take precedence over anything displayed here.

Corrections

If a number, label, or source attribution is wrong, contact Vinay through v40.in. Corrections should be reflected in the Data Sources section so readers can see what changed.

Built by

Built by Vinay C. The project is designed to remain online after counting day as a certified-results archive when Form 20 records are available.
